Colin's Farming Page - The farm is 400 acres(160 hectares), it milks 350 cows, the majority being from Fresian bloodlines although there is a hint of Holstien. The farm is totally pasture except for approxiamately 10 acres of sourgum which is used as a supplement at the end of summer and in the autumn when the herd calves.With access to irrigation the farm is able to survive through the drier summers as long as it is economic to use the water. It can be far more profitable and have greater benefit to the cows if the water is used late summer and early winter to grow the grass for the calving and early lactation period.
