California Dairy Reasearch Foundation -

Dairy Food Safety Laboratory -
There is a critical need for a mechanism of performing rapid response, and applied
research on dairy herd health and on-farm food safety problems. In addition, a
laboratory that has a primary focus on the dairy producer is necessary for both
undergraduate and graduate training, and to serve as a hub around which collaborative
efforts in research and information dissemination revolve. The Laboratory's mandate is
to provide a consistent, rapid response of applied research on herd health and food
safety questions as they arise.

Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders of Australia Inc. - Emanating from North America although originating in Switzerland, the Brown Swiss have been selected purely for dairying for over the past 125 years. The Brown Swiss was first introduced into Australia, via semen imports from Canada and England in 1974. Importation of cattle was prohibited in those days and only a limited amount of semen from a few bulls was available. The cattle are intensively pastured during May to Oct as well as fed free choice baleage. The ration also includes mixed grain, corn and roasted soybeans. All feed is grown on our 290 acres. An additional 55 acres is hardwood bush. The herd is classified regularly and milk recorded.

North Florida Holsteins - North Florida Holsteins was founded in 1980, milking 120 cows on 480 acres in a double 10 herringbone parlor. Colin's Farming Page - The farm is 400 acres(160 hectares), it milks 350 cows, the majority being from Fresian bloodlines although there is a hint of Holstien. The farm is totally pasture except for approxiamately 10 acres of sourgum which is used as a supplement at the end of summer and in the autumn when the herd calves.With access to irrigation the farm is able to survive through the drier summers as long as it is economic to use the water. It can be far more profitable and have greater benefit to the cows if the water is used late summer and early winter to grow the grass for the calving and early lactation period.
